EXCLUSIVE: The Documentary+ streaming platform has acquired worldwide rights to A Man with Sole: The Impact of Kenneth Cole, a documentary profiling the iconic designer who has combined creative and business savvy with social advocacy.
Dori Berinstein directed the film which premiered at the Hamptons International Film Festival before screening at DOC NYC and other festivals. A Man with Sole bows exclusively on Documentary+ this Thursday as a Documentary+ Original.
Among the prominent interviewees in the film are actor-activist Alan Cumming (host of The Traitors), journalist Katie Couric, and author and wellness advocate Deepak Chopra.
“I’m excited that through Doc+, A Man with Sole can now reach a wider audience,” Cole commented. “This film shares my 40+ year journey and my belief that a business is more impactful when you marry cause and commerce. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring this story forward in the hope it inspires other companies and founders to connect with their communities in more meaningful ways.”
Documentary+ says it will donate 20 percent of subscriptions driven by the film to the Mental Health Coalition, “which is focused on helping destigmatize all mental health conditions and enable equitable access to vital resources and support for all.” The streaming platform, recently acquired by acTVe, notes the acquisition “continues a deliberate programming strategy centered on filmmaker-driven stories about larger-than-life figures whose influence extends well beyond their primary field.”
In a statement, Documentary+ CEO Geoff Clark said, “Kenneth Cole is one of those rare individuals who has used his platform — in every sense of the word — to shape culture and drive change. This film is exactly the kind of story we built Documentary+ to tell: deeply personal, visually rich, and genuinely consequential. We couldn’t be more proud to premiere it as a Documentary+ Original this June.”
A Man with Sole: The Impact of Kenneth Cole joins a list of original titles on the platform including Still Single, THC, INC, The Spiritual Advisor, The Power of Pickleball, Comedy Against the Odds, The Hobby, Charm Circle, and Oscar-shortlisted A Swim Lesson, among many others.
As we noted when Deadline premiered the trailer of the film last year, Kenneth Cole is a master of the turn of phrase, as well as a master of design, having turned his fashion company into a billion dollar+ business. Case in point: the company tagline – “Kenneth Cole: Always on Purpose.”
