Chappell Roan made a surprise appearance during Rosalía’s now-buzzy “La Perla” confessional segment of her Lux Tour at Oakland Arena on Monday night (July 6), where the pop singer opened up about a past romantic situation that later inspired a song.

After the Spanish superstar welcomed Roan to the stage, the two shared a warm exchange, with the “Pink Pony Club” singer revealing, “I flew from Missouri to be here. I’m so excited.”

Prompted by Rosalía to share something she wanted to “get out of your chest,” Roan recalled a pandemic-era flirtation that grew through months of online communication before turning into an in-person date in Los Angeles. “We kissed, and it was — I was floating,” Roan said. “I was just so like, wow.”

But the story quickly took a turn. The Midwest star said that after not hearing from the person for four days, she reached out and was told, “I met someone.” She went on to explain that the person later told a mutual friend “they knew they should be sad and care about me, but they don’t,” adding that “they don’t know why I’m so upset because it was just casual.”

“And that turned into a song,” Roan revealed. She then delivered the line that sent the crowd roaring: “They said that they can turn their emotions on and off like a faucet.”

Rosalía then responded by connecting the story to “La Perla,” the song that follows the confessional segment in her set. “We have a word in Spain — ‘una perla’ — someone who’s a real piece of work, un cabrón, o una cabrona,” said the star from Barcelona. “I wrote a song called ‘La Perla.’ I think it’s the perfect one to dedicate to your perla. You deserve someone much better.”

Roan is the latest guest to appear during Rosalía’s confessional segment, following previous appearances from Karol G, Marcello Hernández and others.
