Harry Shum Jr. is heading to the ballroom for Dancing With the Stars Season 35, and fans might be curious to know more about his longtime love!
The 44-year-old Grey’s Anatomy and Glee actor will compete alongside pro partner Jenna Johnson when the new season premieres on Tuesday (September 15).
While Harry has been part of some fan-favorite romantic storylines on television, he’s been in a long-lasting relationship in real life as well.
The actor has been with his wife Shelby Rabara for nearly 20 years, and they celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in November 2025.
Who Is Harry Shum Jr.’s Wife Shelby Rabara?
Shelby, 42, is an actress and dancer who has appeared in projects including Glee, Goliath and 17 Again. She’s also well known for her voice work, including playing Peridot in the Steven Universe franchise and Snappy in Toy Story 5.
Before pursuing acting, Shelby was a dancer and spent two years as a Los Angeles Lakers cheerleader.
Dancing actually played a role in bringing Harry and Shelby together.
The couple crossed paths while pursuing their dance careers, even appearing in the same commercial before they started dating. Harry also previously recalled that a photographer they both used once displayed their headshots next to each other.
“I remember looking at [the ad] like, ‘Oh, that girl is really pretty,'” Harry recalled in a 2025 Shondaland interview. He said that when they later met, he recognized her from the photo.

Harry has also revealed that their “first, official date” involved going to see the 2006 movie Dreamgirls.
“We both cried,” he recalled during a 2022 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, explaining that the movie prompted them to open up to each other and helped bring them closer.Goliath
After years of dating, Harry proposed while the couple was vacationing in Hawaii. They eventually tied the knot in Costa Rica in November 2015.
Several of Harry‘s Glee co-stars were reportedly there for the celebration, including Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale.

Harry and Shelby are parents to one daughter, Xia, whom they welcomed in March 2019.
Their daughter also helped inspire the couple’s 2025 children’s book Martee Dares to Dance, which encourages kids to express themselves through dance.
With their 10th wedding anniversary behind them, Harry recently opened up about what has made their marriage last.
“I don’t know if I have a secret,” he told People in June 2026. “I think it’s just loving each other in different stages.”
He explained that relationships require discovering what each person needs during different phases of life and communicating in different ways.
As for keeping the romance alive, Harry said he believes in “the unexpected” and making sure they still experience themselves as a couple outside of simply being parents.
Fans may get to see Shelby cheering on her husband when Dancing With the Stars Season 35 premieres Tuesday, September 15 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.
