Deacon Phillippe is stacking up his acting resume!
The 22-year-old son of Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon has just been announced to join the cast of the upcoming movie adaptation of Lynn Painter‘s book, “Better Than the Movies,” according to Deadline.
Deacon, who has only been seen on screen in two TV shows so far, Never Have I Ever and Motorheads, is one of eight new additions to the cast of the Netflix film. He is set to portray Michael Young.
What is Better Than the Movies about?
Per Deadline, the movie adaptation “centers on Liz Buxbaum, whose obsession with rom-com movies proves very helpful when she schemes with her annoying but cute next-door neighbor to get the attention of her untouchable crush. Published by Simon & Schuster in 2021, the book is a love letter to romantic comedies that pays homage to classic romance tropes — fake relationship, enemies to lovers, boy next door — but spins them on their head in a new take on what happily ever after looks like.”
As previously announced, Percy Jackson‘s Beatrice Kitsos will play Liz Buxbaum, and The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s David Iacono will play the cute next-door neighbor, Wes Bennett. Both are pictured above!

Who else is joining the cast?
Also newly announced as part of the cast, pictured above, are Nicole Bruner as Jocelyn; Luke Kirby as Brian Buxbaum; Judy Greer as Helena; Claire Coffee as Martha Buxbaum; Ora Duplass as Laney Morgan; and Kynlee Heiman as Young Liz.
Veronica Garrubbo joins the cast as well, playing Alex.
Julia Hart, whose movie Don’t Say Good Luck recently premiered on Netflix, is set to direct, with a script by Heather Flanders and Hart & Horowitz (Julia and her husband, Jordan Horowitz).
