CHUNG HA is back with a new song, and she’s singing in both English and Spanish!
The 30-year-old “Gotta Go” K-pop superstar released her new digital single “México” on Monday (September 1), marking her first solo release in approximately seven months.
Along with the main version of the Latin pop track, CHUNG HA released a complete English version and a complete Spanish version, titled “México (Versión Español).”

What Is CHUNG HA’s “México” About?
“México” is about wanting to escape everyday life, leave everything behind and start fresh somewhere nobody knows you.
CHUNG HA‘s agency MORE VISION provided an in-depth explanation of the song to the BUGS! streaming platform.
‘México’ is a space that symbolically expresses the desire to break free from the gaze and wounds of reality and live as one’s true self amidst hope. It captures the courage to let go of everything amidst repetitive reality and emptiness, leaving for a place where no one knows oneself to face a new self and life.
This new song is an impressive Latin pop number featuring CHUNG HA‘s delicate vocals unfolding over a minimalist intro. The song’s completeness is enhanced by the harmonious blend of a powerful brass section in the drop, diverse layering sound variations, and a rhythmic yet rich chorus.
If her previous digital single “Save me” was an inner record of trying to understand oneself and rise again even in moments of wavering, “México” is a song that takes a step further on the continuum of those emotions, beginning to move toward a new space and life. The impulse to leave everything behind and leave for an unfamiliar place ultimately embodies the desire to live as one’s true self, and through this song, CHUNG HA sensuously portrays these freer and more honest emotions.
Why Did CHUNG HA Name the Song ‘México’?
There is a personal connection: CHUNG HA spent part of her childhood in Texas, and previously recalled growing up around Mexican friends and culture.
“I loved the culture and the food,” she said in a July interview about the song, explaining that she immediately wanted to record it after hearing the demo.
Interestingly, the song wasn’t created specifically for this comeback. CHUNG HA revealed that she actually recorded it several years ago and decided to preserve her original vocals for its eventual release.
“I think every song has its own timing. This one just found its moment now,” she explained.
Does CHUNG HA Sing ‘México’ Entirely in Spanish?
There are actually three versions of “México”: the main version combines English and Spanish, while CHUNG HA also recorded separate English and Spanish versions of the song.
The Spanish version is titled “México (Versión Español),” while the other is simply called “Mexico (English Version).”
CHUNG HA is credited as a lyricist on all three versions of the song.
This also isn’t her first time recording music in Spanish. She previously released the Spanish-language song “Demente” with Puerto Rican artist Guaynaa on her 2021 album Querencia.

CHUNG HA is credited as a lyricist alongside Emy Josefina Perez Yepez, Lara Benito, Jonas David Kröper, Jantine Annika Heij, Ashley Hicklin, Kim Mannila and Sammy Renders on the main version of “México.”
The track was composed by Jonas David Kröper, Jantine Annika Heij, Ashley Hicklin, Kim Mannila and Sammy Renders.
