ESPN has begun laying off so many on-air commentators and we are breaking down what is being reported right now.
If you are not aware, ESPN acquired the NFL Network earlier this year, and the layoffs appear to be tied to this.
ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro wrote a memo to staff members, explaining the firings
He wrote, via THR, “Over the past several months, we’ve made significant progress integrating the NFL assets that we acquired into ESPN. Throughout this process, we have taken the time to carefully evaluate our collective teams, resources and organizational structure to best position us for the future. As a result, we had to make some difficult decisions about job impacts that we will be communicating today. While most of the job impacts are tied to the acquisition, we will also notify colleagues in other parts of the company today that their positions have been impacted. We are committed to treating employees with compassion and respect and to providing support as they navigate this transition.”
While this is a major layoff, it’s not the first time this has happened. A few years ago, NFL Network went through a major layoff.

The names that have been revealed include fan-favorite NFL insider Tom Pelissero, former NFL quarterback and analyst Cam Newton, NFL analysts Ryan Clark, Bart Scott and Charles Davis, along with ESPN broadcasters Karl Ravech and David Lloyd, and injury analyst Stephania Bell, per The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand.
