Information about Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to be leaked online but according to one former Rockstar worker, it’s nothing to be worried about.
Last week, the Grand Theft Auto 6 map was leaked online alongside a clip of one of the game’s dual protagonists Jason. Since then, more than 10 alleged gameplay videos have been shared, with the ‘Cyberleek’ group claiming responsibility for the leaks.
As well as sharing footage with the message ““No physical discs? Then more leeks”, the leakers have asked fans to turn up outside Rockstar’s HQ with physical game discs in protest of Grand Theft Auto 6’s digital-only release. They’ve also asked fans to vote on what they should leak next using cryptocurrency transfers.
It’s been reported that Grand Theft Auto 6 publishers Take Two have requested user information from Microsoft, Discord and X to try and track down the leakers, who are still active.
However one former Rockstar developer doesn’t think they’re a big deal. “Calm down everybody. The leaks are a nothing burger,” said Rockstar’s former technical director Obbe Vermeij, who worked at the company from 1995 to 2009. “As a marketing strategy, Rockstar is trying to keep the game under wraps longer than other publishers. All that has happened is that some footage has escaped. Slightly ahead of the Netflix thing [this] week.”

“90 per cent of future players don’t spend their time on the internet looking for video snippets. They don’t have the time and don’t want spoilers. I imagine the teams are a little annoyed about it but not more than that,” he continued on X. “It looks like Grand Theft Auto 6 will be phenomenal and sell for the next 15 years or so. The leaks are just a tiny blip.”
Fans can get an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6 this week (27 August) on Netflix before the broadcast will be shared more widely six hours later.
In other news, The Witcher 4 is set to launch at some point in 2028, according to game developers CD Projekt Red.
