Speculation has been going around on social media that Ariana Grande may be getting recast in the upcoming London production of Sunday in the Park with George.
The 32-year-old actress and singer was first announced to star in the production back in January, alongside Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey.
Following a delay on tickets going on sale, rumors started swirling that Ariana was leaving the production, but the musical’s social media accounts have seemingly shut them down.
The show posted a photo of Ariana on stage during a stop of her Eternal Sunshine Tour, sharing a quote from composer Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the music and lyrics for the musical.
“‘Only way to make a work of art.'” they wrote in the caption on Wednesday (June 17), adding, “Our Dot is putting it together on The Eternal Sunshine Tour. That’s what counts.”
The London production of Sunday in the Park with George, starring Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey, is set to launch in 2027 at the Barbican Centre. Tickets are slated to go on sale this fall.
If you don’t know, the musical follows painter Georges Seurat as he meticulously works on his masterpiece, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” while navigating his complicated relationship with his lover Dot. The second act of the musical later shifts to his great-grandson, George, exploring how art, love, and creative legacy echo across generations, with Dot now aged to be elderly.
Coming up later this year, Ariana is also set to release her new album petal, and she’s starring in the new movie Focker-In-Law!
