Saoirse Ronan has given some insight into how her husband, “Slow Horses” actor Jack Lowden, is handling rumors that he’s in the running to play James Bond.

Ronan revealed she isn’t letting thoughts of being the next 007 get to Lowden’s head, saying “It’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house to be honest; the dog needs to be worked, the dinner needs to be made.”

The couple are understood to have welcomed their first child last year after getting married in 2024. In 2018 they appeared together in “Mary Queen of Scots” with Ronan playing the titular royal and Lowden her husband. She is currently shooting Sam Mendes’ four-feature Beatles biopic, in which she plays Linda McCartney opposite Paul Mescal’s Paul Mccartney while Lowden is working on Apple TV’s spy dramedy “Slow Horses” alongside Gary Oldman.

“Well, Gary Oldman thinks [Jack] is James Bond which is its own thing,” Ronan responded to a question from the Associated Press about how the couple were handling the rumors. “I mean we’re getting on with our life to be honest, we have plenty of other things to be dealing with. It’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house to be honest; the dog needs to be worked, the dinner needs to be made. We’re more focused on that. Jack’s on ‘Slow Horses’ right now and he’s having a good time on that.”

Last month Oldman was thought to have let the cat out of the bag when he told a Canadian TV show that his co-star had scored the role. “It’s been rumored that [Lowden] is on the shortlist,” Oldman said.

“We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

Amazon MGM Studios, who now own and manage the Bond franchise, declined to comment and Oldman later backtracked.

The last Bond film was 2021’s “No Time to Die,” which saw Daniel Craig hang up his bow tie after inhabiting the role for fifteen years. So far concrete news about the next feature in the franchise has been in short supply, although it has been confirmed that “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight is writing the script, which he claims to have now finished, while “Dune” helmer Denis Villeneuve is directing.
