The Traitors remains the hottest unscripted show in town.

The Peacock mystery format won its third consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, beating ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, MTV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, CBS’ Survivor and Bravo’s Top Chef.

After picking up the statue, Alan Cumming thanked “all our loved ones who support us and let us go off into the Scottish Highlands and play with weird things”.

In addition to thanking his dog Lala, Cumming applauded the show’s audience. “The audience is so amazing. It is so diverse, and it’s just incredible the way you all get together and watch the show together. That is so beautiful. That a show about treachery and betrayal brings people together,” he said.

The Scot closed by encouraging viewers to vote in the U.S. midterm elections. “Finally, tonight we have received the most votes, but tomorrow is voter registration day in this country. So please make sure you’re registered to vote, because the time for talk is over. It is now time to vote, America,” he added.

It becomes The Traitors seventh win of the year, taking its total haul of Emmys over the years to 15 from 17 nominations. Last weekend, Cumming won the award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program and it also picked up wins for production design, cinematography, picture editing and costumes.

It cements Traitors as TV Academy voters’ favorite new reality darling, after having given RuPaul’s Drag Race the award five wins across seven years and anointing The Voice, Top Chef and The Amazing Race with wins before that.

The Traitors is based on Dutch format De Verraders, a game that splits its contestants into two groups: The Faithful and the Traitors. At the beginning of the season, Cumming picks the Traitors that will pit the Faithful against each other by murdering them one by one while trying to remain undercover. The Faithful attempt to uncover the Traitors in a roundtable where they vote each other out and banish them from the game. At the end of the game, if there are Traitors left in the game, they will split the money between them. If there are no Traitors left, the money is divided among the Faithful.

Season four, which was shot, as ever, in Scotland, featured Rob Rausch, Maura Higgins, Eric Nam, Tara Lipinski, Johnny Weir, Mark Ballas, Natalie Anderson, Kristen Kish, Stephen Colletti, Dorinda Medley (again), Candiace Dillard Bassett, Colton Underwood, Lisa Rinna, Yamil ‘Yam Yam’ Arocho, Ron Funches, Michael Rapaport, Monet X Change, Tiffany Mitchell, Caroline Stanbury, Donna Kelce, Rob Cesternino, Porsha Williams and Ian Terry.

The series, which is produced by Studio Lambert, had a dynamite finale with [SPOILER ALERT] snake-wrangler Rausch, who made his name as a contestant on Love Island USA, fooling Love Island UK star Higgins to win the finale prize.

“I wish I could sit here and say I knew he was a traitor, but I had no clue,” Higgins said at Deadline’s Contenders Television: The Nominees Studio. “He played the best game in that castle. I genuinely did believe he was a faithful, but you know what? It’s a game, and I was fine with it. I went through all the emotions very quickly, and then I was like, ‘You know what? Fair play.’ I genuinely was so convinced that me and him was winning the show together.”

Rausch deadpanned, “I was actually surprised in the edit. I feel like they made me seem a little more nervous than I was.”

The Traitors, which is also getting a civilian version on NBC, is exec produced by Cumming, Stephen Lambert, Mike Cotton, Sam Rees-Jones, Rosie Franks, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess and Darrell Olsen.
