EXCLUSIVE: Verve has signed Brazilian filmmaker José Padilha for representation.

A writer, producer, and director, Padilha is currently at work in Los Angeles on Prime Video’s Delphi, where he serves as director and executive producer. Produced by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society and Amazon MGM Studios, the series marks the first live-action television expansion of the Creed franchise — which is itself an expansion of the Rocky boxing franchise. Padilha is directing the pilot and multiple subsequent episodes of the inaugural season.

Padilha first broke through with the Brazilian crime flick Elite Squad, based on a novel by Luiz Eduardo Soares, which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. He also helmed the sequel, Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, which became the highest-grossing film of all time in Brazil. Later, he directed the 2014 Sony/MGM reboot of RoboCop and action thriller 7 Days in Entebbe for Focus, Participant and Working Title.

Padilha is also widely known as the co-creator, executive producer, and lead director of Netflix’s Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated crime drama, Narcos. Earlier in his career, his documentary Bus 174 earned both Emmy and Peabody recognition. He also directed acclaimed docs Garapa and Secrets of the Tribe.

Padilha continues to be represented by Entertainment 360 and Cowan DeBaets Abrahams & Sheppard.
