Sacha Baron Cohen has wrapped production on a new Ali G film, which will bring his sketch comedy breakout to back to big screen. The character was previously featured in 2002âs âAli G Indahouse.â
The film was shot in secret, much like Cohen operated on 2006âs âBoratâ and 2020âs âBorat Subsequent Moviefilm,â two of his most popular movies. Cohen also brought another of his sketch characters to cinemas with 2009âs âBrĂŒno.â As fans of the comedian know, Ali G is a streetwise interviewer whose hip hop slang often bewilders guests such as Noam Chomsky, Andy Rooney and Newt Gingrich. The character originally appeared on Channel 4âs âThe 11 OâClock Showâ before becoming the title character of âDa Ali G Showâ in the early 2000s. He earned a following in the U.S. when the program aired on HBO.
A spokesperson for Cohen did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Cohenâs credits include his Oscar-nominated turn in âThe Trial of the Chicago 7.â He has also starred in âSweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,â âThe Dictator,â âHugo,â âAlice Through the Looking Glass,â âLes MisĂ©rablesâ and several âMadagascarâ films.
Cohen recently appeared in the Netflix film âLadies Firstâ and âBalls Up.â On streaming, he also starred opposite Kevin Kline and Cate Blanchett in Alfonso CuarĂłnâs âDisclaimerâ for Apple+. Cohen created the 2019 sketch show âWho is America,â earning Emmy nominations in the process. He was also Emmy nominated for âDa Ali G Showâ and nominated for Oscars for the scripts for both âBoratâ films.
