The director of Slow Horses has confirmed the filming of the next chapter in the spy series, and discussed whether the eighth season could be the last.
The Apple TV show debuted in 2022 and stars Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the head of Slough House, a banishment room for MI5 service rejects who have seriously failed a task but not badly enough to get sacked. The show has been a hit for the streaming service, and won three Emmys during its run.
The sixth season of the show debuted yesterday (September 16) on the platform, with six episodes airing weekly until October 21. A seventh and eighth season have been confirmed by Apple TV, and at Q&A last night at London’s Barbican Centre, attended by NME, series director Adam Randall confirmed they had already begun filming future episodes.
“We were shooting here [The Barbican] about eight weeks ago,” he confirmed, before discussing whether season eight, which is based on the most recent book in the source novels by Mick Herron, would also be the last season in the TV show.
“I mean, first of all, season eight comes out in 2028,” he replied. “So it’s sort of mapped, really. We will wrap, and it will be out two years later. We finished season six a year ago. It’s a year ago, and it’s just sat on the shelf. So we’re really ahead. So there isn’t that kind of pressure.”
He also reflected that, while Herron could write more novels for the show to adapt, that could be a suitable stopping point. “Season eight would make a great ending,” he said. “We’ve got that in our mind. If that was the end, then it would make a really good end of Slow Horses, I think.”
Recently, star Oldman revealed that he feels the new Harry Potter TV series will be “more satisfying” than the movies he was involved in.
