Cameron Winter has played a surprise secret set of new solo material in New Orlean – watch fan-filmed footage below.

The Geese frontman performed the show unnanounced at BJ’s Lounge in the Bywater district, where fans were treated to a night of entirely new material.

According to Setlist.fm, Winter gave three songs their live debut; one titled ‘Prostitute’, a second with the lyrics “I put the gun back under my bed and drove slowly into town”, and a third known only by the lyrics “I suppose”, which a Reddit user reported that Winter thought was “too fucking long”. Another Reddit user added that Winter’s new music was “all pretty stylistically similar to ‘Heavy Metal'”, explaining: “There were a few absurd lines that made the crowd laugh, and he played one new one that was absolutely gorgeous.”

In addition to the new material, Winter also played ‘Emperor XIII In Shades’, which he debuted at his Live at Carnegie Hall show and ‘I Don’t Wanna’, which he premiered at his show at Durham Performing Arts Centre in May 2025. Winter also reportedly played ‘Love Takes Miles’ and ‘Try As I May’ off his debut solo album, ‘Heavy Metal’.

Winter recently confirmed he was working on new solo music, telling Rolling Stone that the process has been “hard”.

“I used to write songs with interesting, difficult almost, chords in them, and now it’s like I-IV-V until the cows come home,” Winter said. “It’s actually getting worse and worse. It’s like the fucking rut is getting deeper and deeper, because then I do a ii chord, and I’m just like, ‘Ew. What are you, fucking Keith Jarrett, you piece of shit?’”

He added that playing new songs to other people has not helped this process, adding: “I stopped doing it because I think it just is not useful for me. I think most people that I’ve played it to, they kind of furrow their brow a little bit and they’re just like, ‘So is this… This is going on the record then? This is one of those songs?’ I don’t think anyone’s really liked it.”

Winter’s debut solo album ‘Heavy Metal’ came out in 2024, and since then he’s released ‘Getting Killed’ with Geese, which was named NME‘s Number One record of 2025.

He has previously played a secret charity show back in January under the name Chet Chomsky.

The set took place at the TV Eye venue in Queens in support of the Olive Grove Initiative, a mutual aid group providing support and aid to families from Gaza.

Meanwhile, Winter is due to release his live album ‘Live At Carnegie Hall‘. The record is set for release on October 9 via Partisan Records and Play It Again Sam – pre-order it here.

Elsewhere, NME caught up with Winter just before the release of ‘Heavy Metal’, where the New York singer told us about the process of writing his album under mounting pressure and notoriety.

“In retrospect, a lot of people seem to have this idea that I went in with the sole purpose of making something as far away from common sense and the current culture as possible, but I just tried to do whatever excited me,” he told NME.

“A big note I got on this was that it’s ‘too heavy and you’re going to scare people away’ and I don’t want it to scare people away. I feel like when I listen to Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen or those sort of sad sacks, they’re more depressed than I am by a long shot, but I never feel like their songs are devoid of hope or anything. I feel like they are very affirming to life.”

He added: “Life is depressing sometimes and instead of trying to avoid talking about or referencing depressing aspects of life, their version of uplifting is to look depressing things dead in the face and that to me is healthier and more appealing than just avoiding it.”
