There seems to be some sort of miscommunication going on between the New Girl cast and crew.

While appearing on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle last month, Max Greenfield, who played Schmidt on the Fox comedy series, said that a New Girl reunion was “happening,” adding that he’s “seen scripts” and “they’re amazing.”

However, while attending the season one finale of her latest series Furious earlier this week, New Girl creator Liz Meriwether insisted to Variety that “there are no scripts.”

“I don’t even have the scripts written for the things that I need to have scripts written for,” she added.

Max eventually clarified his TV reunion comments, admitting that he was confused because he will be reuniting with co-stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone and Damon Wayans Jr at the 2026 Chrysalis Butterfly Ball this fall where they will receive the Rising Phoenix Gala.

The award will recognize New Girl‘s theme of starting over and people who make starting over possible. Max will be serving as host of the event.

While it a New Girl reunion reboot isn’t happening right now, it has already been announced that two former co-stars will be reuniting for a new series!
