Bartiromo, who had been with Fox News and Fox Business for more than 12 years, has become increasingly enamored of Trump and has promoted various MAGA conspiracy theories.
Fox News on Sept. 3 said it parted ways with Bartiromo, who joined as an anchor at both Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel in 2013. “We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter,” the company said in a statement.
The following day, Bartiromo‘s attorney, Bryan Freedman, said that she had not been fired by Fox and suggested she was ready to take the company to court. “The irresponsible reports that have been published stating that Maria Bartiromo was fired or is no longer an employee of Fox are absolutely and unequivocally false,” Freedman said.
Citing a source familiar with the situation, Variety reported that Fox News believes Bartiromo shared with the White House a directive from network bosses cautioning staffers against supporting outlandish claims made by Trump. Bartiromo had wanted to pursue a story about Trump’s claims in a July 16 speech, in which he alleged China had illegally accessed millions of voter files to try to manipulate U.S. elections in 2018 and 2020, media industry newsletter Status reported.
