Ahman Green has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The 49-year-old former NFL running back, best known for playing with the Green Bay Packers, made an appearance on the Go Long with Tyler Dunne podcast, where he opened up about the diagnosis and the symptoms he’s facing.

“Last year, health-wise, I got diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s,” he revealed, adding: “I knew something was going on long before that…I finally got it tested in January of 2025.”

Per Mayo Clinic:

Parkinson’s disease is a movement disorder of the nervous system that worsens over time. The nervous system is a network of nerve cells that controls many parts of the body, including movement.

Symptoms start slowly. The first symptom may be a barely noticeable tremor in just one hand or sometimes a foot or the jaw. Tremor is common in Parkinson’s disease. But the disorder also may cause stiffness, slowing of movement and trouble with balance that raises the risk of falls.

In the early stages of Parkinson’s disease, your face may show little or no expression. Your arms may not swing when you walk. Your speech may become soft or slurred. Symptoms get worse over time.

Although Parkinson’s disease can’t be cured, medicines may help symptoms get better. Sometimes a healthcare professional may suggest surgery to help control parts of the brain. This surgery may help lessen symptoms.

“I didn’t share it for a long time because I wanted to let my kids know, my family know. I let my immediate kids know first before I told friends,” Ahman explained on the podcast.

“I’m not going to let this control me…there is some medicine that I’ve been taking from the doctor’s side of it… But on my side, the food is my medicine as well.”

As far as his symptoms, he said that his “short-term memory is trash,” and that “when I meet somebody for the first time… I try to repeat their name or write it down.”

“I have kind of like a twitch when I sleep… my legs twitch,” he added. “Sleepwalking and not having no recollection of it… I wake up and my wife is just looking at me.”

“I still keep moving. I still work out to my ability. No weights. I’m all old-school calisthenics…if you don’t move it, you lose it,” Ahman said.

As far as going public with his diagnosis, he said: “It needs to be upfront. It needs to be a topic that’s always hit. And it’s not the end-all. I have a jump ahead of it…I’m ahead of it right now.”

“The way I look at it, my clock is going to stop ticking when I want it to stop ticking,” he said of his health and his future.
