Tim Curry provided an update on his health just about one year ago.
If you did not see the news, the beloved 80-year-old actor passed away on Tuesday (August 25), which is the same day we lost another icon. Dolly Parton also passed that day.
Tim‘s acting career spanned over 50 years. He famously played Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the movie musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show. His film credits include Annie, Clue, Legend, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and Muppet Treasure Island. He also famously played Pennywise the Clown in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King‘s It. His stage work earned Tony Award nominations, and he played King Arthur in the Broadway musical Spamalot.
Tim Curry‘s fans may not know that he had suffered health issues in the last few years of his life. In 2025, Tim spoke out about the stroke that he suffered in 2012.
Tim Curry’s rep released a statement after his stroke news broke years ago
“Tim is doing great….’He absolutely can speak and is recovering at this time and in great humor,” the rep said at the time.
In 2025, Tim Curry explained the circumstances surrounding his stroke
“I was having a massage at the time and I didn’t even actually notice anything, but the guy who was doing the massage said, ‘I’m worried about you, I want to call an ambulance.’ And he did, and I said, ‘That’s so silly,’” he recalled of when his stroke happened, via THR.
Tim Curry also explained that he was still using a wheelchair as of 2025 due to the lasting effects of the stroke
“I still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting,” Tim added. “So I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg.”
