Limited-edition Sprite cans featuring 50 classic hip-hop songs will be available in a new campaign, The Living Tracklist, in partnership with Genius.
Sprite’s newest campaign, dubbed The Living Tracklist, puts the lyrics of 50 impactful hip-hop songs on cans and bottles for a limited time, thanks to a collaboration with Genius. The project consists of limited-edition packaging and an immersive digital campaign spanning 60 years of music.
“Sprite has never been a brand that just shows up when hip-hop is trending. Sprite has been with the culture and of the culture since day one,” said Chris Keyes, Director of Creative & Strategy for Sprite North America. “The Living Tracklist is the trust expression of that commitment to intentionality. It wasn’t dreamed up in a boardroom, but in collaboration with the people and partners who shape the culture every day.”
Lyrics from what Sprite calls the 50 most impactful hip-hop songs appear as living art on 26 different packaging designs across both cans and bottles of Sprite and Sprite Zero Sugar. Six illustrators created the designs, inspired by album artwork and cultural influences. The collectible designs will be available on retail shelves nationwide beginning in July and running through September.
The campaign also features on-pack QR codes, which fans can scan to be directed to a custom Genius site. There, they can explore the tracklist further with Genius’ lyric annotations and even commentary, and also enter sweepstakes opportunities.
“Hip-hop’s legacy is written in its lyrics,” said Jackie Vignone, Chief Revenue Officer at Genius. “We’re inviting fans to revisit these iconic tracks, explore the stories behind them, and join the conversation around the music that continues to inspire culture today.”
Tracks included on the cans span the full history of hip-hop, from “Rapper’s Delight” in 1979 to GloRilla’s “TGIF,” and everything in between. Songs like “C.R.E.A.M.,” “California Love,” “Southern Hospitality,” “Grindin’,” “Crank That,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and “Bodak Yellow” are all featured.
