Alan Ritchson and Catherine Ritchson‘s relationship is making headlines following their statement announcing their split.
The longtime couple met as teenagers, eventually reconnecting and marrying in May 2006. They went on to welcome three sons together: Calem, 13, Edan, 12, and Amory, 10.
Amid renewed interest in their family following the breakup news, we’re taking a closer look at Catherine and her history with Alan.
Alan and Catherine met in a ballet class
Alan and Catherine first crossed paths as teenagers attending the same ballet class in Florida. Catherine was 16 at the time, while Alan was 17.
She previously recalled noticing Alan in the dance studio and immediately asking a friend about him. Although the two eventually started talking and dated that summer, the romance didn’t last. Alan ended the relationship because he thought it was a summer fling at the time.
They reconnected later, while Catherine was attending the University of Florida and Alan had traveled to Miami for a modeling job. It was a mutual friend who got them in touch once again.
Alan and Catherine married on May 12, 2006. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

They share three sons
The Reacher star and Catherine are parents to three children, all boys. They welcomed Calen in 2012, followed by Edan in 2013, and Amory in 2015.
Alan has frequently spoken about the challenges of balancing his career with fatherhood, particularly when filming takes him away from home for extended periods. He has also honored each of his sons with a tattoo inspired by the meaning or symbolism of their names.
In 2023, Alan revealed that the family had sold its longtime Florida home and adopted a more mobile way of living. Rather than remaining separated while he worked on location, Catherine and their sons began traveling with him and staying in rental homes and hotels near his sets.

Alan Ritchson says they are now co-parenting as friends
After two decades of marriage, Alan has confirmed that his relationship with Catherine has changed.
While discussing the toll that his demanding professional life has taken on his personal life, Alan said that he and Catherine will “continue alongside one another in a different way.” He added that the change had been difficult, but said they had learned how to co-parent their three children as friends.
Alan hasn’t officially said if they are legally separating or divorcing.
