Stana Katic and Connie Nielsen are joining the cast of the upcoming Monsterverse series at Apple TV.
The 48-year-old Castle alum and the 61-year-old Gladiator actress are the latest names joining the cast of the upcoming Legendary series, which includes the previously announced Wyatt Russell, Millie Brady, Pilou Asbaek, Corey Stoll, Ralph Ineson and Nyasha Hatendi, per Deadline.
No character details were offered yet, but here’s what we do know so far:
From showrunner Joby Harold, the series will follow the story of Col. Lee Shaw (Russell), an American operative who, in 1984, went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.
An older version of Col. Lee Shaw appeared in Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, played by Wyatt’s real-life father, Kurt Russell.
Legendary’s Monsterverse is a shared cinematic universe centered around “Titans,” including icons like Godzilla and King Kong, and a secretagency named Monarch that tries to study and contain them. It kicked off in 2014 with Godzilla, and includes entries like Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, as well as next year’s Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
“Viewers around the world haven’t been able to get enough of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters since its global debut, and we cannot wait to unleash the electrifying new stories that Joby and the entire cast and creative team have been working on,” said the company’s Morgan Wandell.
“With Joby at the helm, and alongside our terrific partners at Legendary, this new spinoff will kick off an epic Monsterverse expansion that brings audiences even closer to their favorite Titans along with fantastic character-driven storytelling.”
