EXCLUSIVE: Veteran television executive and producer Robin Schwartz has joined Story Syndicate, the film and television production company founded by Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan, as Head of Scripted. Schwartz will lead all scripted development and production for Story Syndicate, which recently renewed its first-look TV deal with Tomorrow Studios, a partnership with ITV Studios, which is led by founder and CEO Marty Adelstein and partner and president Becky Clements.

Schwartz, who reports to Garbus and Cogan, succeeds Nellie Reed, who recently left to launch her own company, Short Stack Productions, with an overall deal at A24.

Schwartz will be based out of Los Angeles and oversee a team that includes scripted development and production executive Carolyn Daucher.

Known as a prolific producer of nonfiction content, Story Syndicate has made strides in scripted over the last couple of years, which the company hopes to continue with Schwartz overseeing the efforts in the arena.

Under the first-look deal with Tomorrow Studios, Story Syndicate in December landed a straight-to-series order from Netflix for So Far Gone, from writer Mark Bomback, after a bidding war, and also has development deals for a Claus von Bülow limited series at Apple TV, with Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne writing, and a police procedural inspired by Geraldine Hart from writers Eileen Myers and Jerome Hairston at HBO Max.

Schwartz most recently was the President of Television at FilmNation. She previously ran the TV divisions of Regency and Big Beach and had her own banner, Working Bird, under a producing deal at Tomorrow Studios, with Daucher as her Head of Development.

With Tomorrow Studios, Schwartz has series Funny You Should Ask starring Regé-Jean Page in the works at Apple TV. Working Bird’s development slate also includes a limited series based on Joan Didion’s The White Album and Slouching Towards Bethlehem.

Schwartz’s executive producing credits include the special What the Constitution Means to Me for Prime Video, animated comedy Central Park for Apple TV, Tanya Saracho’s series Vida for Starz, and the Elizabeth Olsen series Sorry for Your Loss for Facebook Watch. Additionally, Schwartz oversaw the first Spanish language TV adaptation of Isabel Allende’s novel The House of the Spirits for Amazon LATAM, as well as the drama Small Town Big Story for Sky.

Story Syndicate’s recent documentaries include the Netflix hit Maternal Instinct, Prime Video’s One Night In Idaho, which has been picked up for a second installment, Season 2 of Roku’s Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross, and Billie Jean King’s Give Me the Ball! which will be released on ESPN later this year.
