The 30-year-old had a bit of a slip up while practicing at the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp on Aug. 1. While attempting to throw the football to wide receiver Andrew Armstrong, the quarterback hit offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad in the back of the head.

While he received some criticism after a video of the incident went viral on social media, Mahomes took the feedback on the chin, jokingly comparing his arm to one of the clumsy players from 2004’s The Longest Yard.

Posting a gif from the film—taken from the scene in which Brucie (Nicholas Turturro) fumbles a pass to Paul Crew (Adam Sandler)—Mahomes quoted, “It slipped. I just ate popcorn.”

Indeed, Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs are easing back into training after an eventful off-season. After all, they were in attendance as star tight end Travis Kelce tied the knot with Taylor Swift at a massive star-studded wedding in Madison Square Garden on July 3.

Plus, the father of three—he shares Sterling, 5, Bronze, 3, and Golden, 18 months, with wife Brittany Mahomes—is still easing back into football after suffering an ACL tear last December, ending his last season early.

“The process isn’t over,” Mahomes shared with reporters on July 24 during training camp, per ESPN. “It’ll be something I’ll probably be dealing with the next few years of my career and throughout the rest of my career.”

And his wife has supported him every step of the way, expressing her excitement over his return to the field.

“Seeing him back doing what he loves,” Brittany wrote in a July 25 Instagram Story alongside a reshared video of the NFL pro heading to training camp. “So thankful.”
