Disney+ and La Chaîne L’Équipe have locked a pact that will bring live sports programming traditionally broadcast on the free-to-air sports channel, such as the World Cup and the Dakar Rally, to the streamer in France.
Other sports broadcast on L’Équipe include the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the World Championships in biathlon, the Spanish Super Cup, the Diamond League, and the European Table Tennis Union circuit.
Today’s deal is the latest pact Disney+ has locked with a traditional TV network in Europe. Just in the last few years, Disney+ has signed branding and content-sharing agreements with the U.K.’s ITV, Germany’s ZDF Studios and Spain’s Atresmedia. The trend began in early 2025 when Netflix signed a pact with French commercial network TF1 at Cannes Lions. Hailed as a “new kind of partnership” by Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters, the agreement was the equivalent of NBC or ABC handing over its output, including live channels and sport, to a streaming service.
Prime Video and France Télévisions are also partnering locally, with five of the pubcaster’s key channels and some 20,000 hours of content from its streaming offering available on the Amazon streamer.
Discussing today’s deal, Vincent Broussard, CEO of the TV division of Groupe L’Équipe, said: “This collaboration with Disney+ marks a new milestone for la chaine L’Équipe. It enables us to expand our reach while remaining true to our mission: sharing a passion for sport with the widest possible audience, delivering expertise recognized by all, and offering Disney+ customers must-see sporting events.”
