Turnstile covered The Stone Roses‘ ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ during their headline gig at The Piece Hall in Halifax. Watch below.

The Baltimore band performed in Halifax last night (August 26), and walked out to the Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton hit ‘Islands In The Stream’ in honour of Parton’s passing earlier this week.

Later, in the set, they launched into ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, marking the first time they performed the cover live, after recording their spin on it for Triple J’s ‘Like A Version’ series back in March.

“I love this song – it’s one of my favourite songs of all time,” explained frontman Brendan Yates at the time. “It’s unconventional and simple and very… just beautiful.”

Guitarist Meg Mills also added that ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ boasts “one of the most iconic basslines of all time”, referring to the late Mani’s part. “I think it’s so powerful in its simplicity,” she added.

“With the passing of Mani, it felt like a really appropriate time to kind of pay homage to him. Definitely as a Brit, Stone Roses is one of those bands that every kid that had any inkling towards anything alternative just knew from such an early age.”

Mills went on to hail them as “such an iconic band, and, in my opinion, probably the coolest of all the kind of Manchester bands coming out at that time”. She said the Roses were “in a league of their own”.

Their version puts a dreamy spin on the tune. Check it out below.
