Hong Kong-based Moebius Entertainment has acquired international sales rights to Peter Ho-sun Chan’s The Road Not Taken, which is set to receive its world premiere in the Special Presentations section of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
Chan was previously at TIFF with She Has No Name, starring Zhang Ziyi, which screened at the festival last year.
Moebius Entertainment founder and CEO Fred Tsui explained that his company picked up The Road Not Taken before he was appointed Executive Director of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS).
Tsui, who executive produced and handled international sales on She Has No Name, first collaborated with Chan on that film’s production and international launch, laying the groundwork for their continued relationship on The Road Not Taken.
In keeping with his forthcoming leadership role at HKIFFS, Tsui said he won’t be taking on new sales projects, but The Road Not Taken is a pre-existing Moebius commitment, and the company will handle its international sales campaign and work with the filmmakers on the film’s global rollout. Tsui is scheduled to assume the HKIFFS Executive Director post on September 23, succeeding Albert Lee.
“Peter Chan is a filmmaker of extraordinary emotional precision and global reach,” said Tsui. “Following our work together on She Has No Name, it is a pleasure to continue that relationship with The Road Not Taken. Its World Premiere at TIFF offers an exceptional platform for the film’s first encounter with international audiences.”
