Vice TV has greenlit the anthology docuseries “Everybody Hates,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The show goes behind the scenes on polarizing figures in the sports world, with each episode profiling a different athlete. Per the official description, “Rather than asking whether these athletes deserve the hate they receive, Everybody Hates asks a different question: How did they become the people millions love, millions hate, and almost everyone has an opinion about?”
Vice has also released a teaser trailer for the show, which can be seen below.
“The biggest stories in sports are often the ones everyone thinks they already know,” said Vice TV president Pete Gaffney. “Today’s athletes are judged in real time, often before the full story is understood. ‘Everybody Hates’ looks beyond the headlines to examine how these figures became symbols of much larger cultural conversations. That’s exactly the kind of storytelling Vice has always done best.”
The premiere episode will focus on Jake Paul, the YouTuber turned boxer who was most recently savagely knocked out by Anthony Joshua. Later episodes will take on NFL stars like Aaron Rodgers and Michael Vick, as well as WNBA star Caitlin Clark, international soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The six-episode series will debut on Vice TV on Oct. 27 at 9 p.m. ET. Select episodes will premiere the day after they air on the Vice TV YouTube channel. The series is produced by Vice Studios.

Cristiano Ronaldo (11/24): One of the biggest legends of the game, can fans separate the brand from the man? Los Angeles Times journalist Kevin Baxter, former player Neil Shaka Hislop, and more explore the underbelly of his story.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. (12/1): The undefeated, filthy rich, and polarizing boxer built an empire then left a trail of scandals behind the wins. Former boxer John “Iceman” Scully, ESPN host Crystina Poncher, and others explore the brand built on genius, cash, and violence.
