Perez Hilton‘s family is sharing a new update as he remains hospitalized.
If you don’t know, the 48-year-old gossip blogger was taken to the hospital on August 5 after he was livestreaming on social media and appeared to be harming himself. The disturbing footage was broadcast on TikTok live, and fans grew immediately concerned. Police responded to his home before he was taken to a local medical facility.
On Saturday (August 8), Perez‘s family and team released a new statement on his website, revealing he’s in “condition remains serious but stable” and will need surgery for his injuries.
“We want to confirm that Perez remains hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act,” the statement read. “His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care. He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements.”
The Baker Act – also know as the Florida Mental Health Act – “focuses on crisis services for individuals with mental illness, much like an emergency department is for individuals experiencing a medical emergency.”
Without care or treatment, “the individual is unlikely to care for themselves which can result in substantial harm to their well-being, and it is not evident that harm can be avoided through familial intervention or other services; or It is likely, based on recent behavior, that without treatment, the individual will pose a serious threat to themselves or others.”
Perez‘s family statement continued, “Perez’s condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday. “As our family remains focused on Perez’s treatment and recovery, we also need the space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation.”
The statement also addressed members of the media that are waiting outside of his home, slamming photographers for taking photos of Perez‘s children and family members.
“There is absolutely no reason for members of the media or the public to remain outside the family’s home,” read the statement. “We again respectfully ask members of the media to leave the home and surrounding area, stop following family members, and cease photographing Perez’s children. We also ask photo agencies not to purchase, publish, or distribute any photographs of the children that may have been taken.”
“For more than a decade, PerezHilton.com has maintained a ‘no kids policy,’ meaning the site does not publish photographs of children unless they are attending a public event or their family has chosen to make those photographs public on social media. Perez’s children remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family,” the statement continued. “Please allow them and the rest of the family the peace and privacy they desperately need during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for your continued support, compassion, and understanding.”
In a previous statement, the family revealed where Perez‘s children were at the time of the incident.
