Casey Affleck has directed his third feature and first since 2019’s “Light of My Life.”
“Company,” which wrapped earlier this year in Whistler, Canada, is a gothic mystery starring Nick Nolte (“Cape Fear,” “Die My Love”), Adelaide Clemens (“The Great Gatsby”), Ben Mendelsohn (“The Dark Knight Rises,” “The King”), Scoot McNairy (“A Complete Unknown,” “Speak No Evil”), Emily Alyn Lind (“We Were Liars,” “Speed-the-Plow”) and Caylee Cowan (“Sunrise in Heaven”).
Written and directed by Affleck, a best actor Oscar winner for “Manchester by the Sea,” “Company” is a co-production between Image Nation Studios, Rabbits Black, Spooky Pictures, Artists Equity, Arcana Studio and Artemis Pictures. AGC and Spooky Pictures are on board to handle international sales, with Gersh, Cinetic and Range Select handling North America.
Set on a winter night in 1975, the film sees a mysterious woman named Evelyn arrive uninvited at a holiday gathering and tell the story of Tom, an aging hermit who rescues a stranded actress during a Colorado blizzard more than 20 years earlier. To pass the night, the actress recounts an older tale of a farming couple who take in a troubled young drifter as a series of grisly murders spreads fear across the frontier. Per the synopsis, “As the stories intertwine across generations, ‘Company’ becomes a meditation on grief, vengeance, forgiveness and the quiet acts of compassion that can heal even the deepest wounds.”
Steven Schneider (“The Long Walk,” “Strange Darling,” “Late Night With the Devil”) and Roy Lee (“Weapons,” “Barbarian,” “It”) are producing for Spooky Pictures, alongside Cowan, Dan Lawler, Affleck, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, K. Asher Levin, Enzo Marc and Anthony Katagas. Executive producers include Ben Ross (“Watcher,” “Late Night with the Devil”) for Image Nation Studios; Rami Yasin (“Hokum”) for Spooky Pictures; Ronnie Exley and Jeremy Ross for Rabbits Black; Ron McLeod, Dr. Terence Chan and Bryan Meng; along with Maria Breese for 3:33 Creative Productions and Jonathan Miller. Ron Hansen (“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”) is co-writer.
