Indeed, while the Euphoria star—who plays Maddy Perez on the HBO series—will be saying goodbye to her iconic character after the May 31 finale, she shut down speculation that she's quitting acting after the show's wraps. But in true Alexa style, she kept her cards close to her chest when it comes to her next career move.
"There are goals, and things that I want," she told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published May 31, “but I’m choosing to keep that private."
As for what she will share, "I like my life like this, and I wouldn’t change it."
According to the outlet, rumors of her retirement stem from misconstrued comments Alexa made on a 2020 episode of The A24 Podcast, in which she admitted to Nathan Fielder that, years before her breakout role in Euphoria, she questioned whether she wanted to keep auditioning after it seemed like all of the lead roles were going to white actors.
And though she had the showrunner in her corner, Alexa said her final callback was monumental in more ways than one.
"I was like Joan of Arc," she recalled. "At that point it wasn’t about getting the show anymore, it was about going into that room and being seen."
Despite her years starring on the Emmy-winning series, Alexa is notoriously private—in both her personal and professional life—and stays out of the spotlight.
"It's like, did you ever think that I don’t want it?" Alexa said of fame. "People really take the authority out of your hands. What happened to my ability to choose?"
And while the HBO drama signs off May 31, keep reading to find your next watch by checking out the TV premiere dates for the rest of the year.
