EXCLUSIVE: Camille Cottin is among the new names to join Villaflor, the Netflix political thriller from Oscar-nominated director Santiago Mitre. Soledad Villamil and Valeria Lois round out the cast, alongside the previously announced stars Verónica Llinás and Peter Lanzani.

Back in January, Deadline exclusively reported that Mitre was making the Argentina-set thriller for Netflix. At that point, the movie did not have a name, but we can now reveal it as Villaflor. We also have the first pictures from the movie as well as the latest casting details.

That title is fitting, given that Llinás plays Azucena Villaflor, based on the real-life activist who helped found the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo. After her son is taken by the authorities, she transforms the search for him, and others who have disappeared, into an act of resistance against the military dictatorship. Argentina was under military rule from 1976 to 1983, a period during which tens of thousands of people disappeared.

Lanzani plays Rubio, an army officer tasked with infiltrating the Santa Cruz Church where the relatives of the missing have begun organizing.

Call My Agent! star Cottin portrays Alice Domon, one of the French nuns involved with the Santa Cruz Group. Joining her are Susana Pampin, Alicia Guerra, Vivian El Jaber, Azul Lombardía, Mariela Acosta, Paula Ransenberg, Juliana Muras and Muriel Santa Ana, who bring to life some of the women who stood alongside Azucena during the early days of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, which became one of the most politically significant social movements in Argentina’s history.

Mitre’s film portrays the birth of a civil resistance movement and the state’s infiltration operation designed to destroy it. The cast also includes Antonia Bengoechea, José Mehrez and Enrique Piñeyro.

Mitre received an Academy Award nom for Argentina, 1985. He wrote Villaflor with Mariano Llinás. The movie is produced by Buenos Aires-based La Unión de los Ríos and Paris-based Maneki Films. Production wrapped today after a three-month shoot. The film will be on Netflix next year.

Here are some more first-look shots from the movie.
