Leven Rambin is recovering after suffering some very serious complications during surgery.
Earlier this week, the 36-year-old Grey’s Anatomy actress went into the hospital for what she was expecting to be a “routine endo laparoscopy.” However, Leven woke up unexpectedly in the intensive care unit following the surgery.

“The complications were complicated,” Leven wrote in the caption of her first post-procedure update. She later revealed that her surgeon “accidentally knicked [her] aorta,” which is the largest artery in the body.
“I woke up with a bunch of doctors and surgeons saying that I was lucky to be alive,” she said in another video.

What started out as a procedure to deal with endometriosis quickly morphed into an emergency repair of the vessel, which required Leven to undergo a blood transfusion and get put on “every med under the sun.”
Leven was able to get some answers after surgery though – she was diagnosed of stage one endometriosis with polyps. Unfortunately, her now-extended recovery time has forced her to quit an upcoming Netflix project she was scheduled to start working on in a few weeks.

For now, Leven has her husband and mother by her side as she continues to be monitored in the ICU for at least the next few days. While in in the hospital, Leven‘s been keeping fans updated with some fun TikToks.
