After introducing the hottest piece of property in Canada, Heated Rivalry fans can expect a return to the cottage in Season 2.
Michael Kutryk, the Toronto doctor who owns the Muskoka home that served as Shane’s (Hudson Williams) cottage in the Season 1 finale “The Cottage”, recalled that the show had a “very small budget” when he agreed to “almost nothing” to let them film at the lakefront property.
“I did a little bit of soul searching about allowing them to come back,” he told HGTV of Season 2. “I know they need it, and I realize I [could] be difficult and try to squeeze them, but I [couldn’t] bring myself to do that.”
Kutryk added, “When they called, they said, ‘How much do you want?’ First, I told them they scratched my table, then I named a very reasonable price. They were shocked and appreciative. I actually didn’t even get them to replace my table.”
With a crew of 45, Kutryk was curious about the nature of the show. A producer told him the series was based on a book by Rachel Reid and it’s about hockey, so he listened to the audiobook.
“My jaw just dropped as I listened. The pretty explicit nature of the book made me wonder just what they’d be filming … and showing!” said Kutryk. “I just thought, OK, they’re gonna film what they’re gonna film. What’s done is done.”
After Airbnb was “desperate to get it as a booking,” Kutryk ultimately agreed to “an offer too good to refuse” from another rental company. But he’s not sure if he’ll rent it out again after Season 2.
“We’ll see after Season 2 airs what demand is like,” he explained. “It’s still true: I’m a private guy. This is my retreat. I built this to get away from the world, so I don’t know how much longer I’ll continue to share it.”
Deadline recently reported that Justice Smith, Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Shaheen Jafargholi, Emily Hampshire, Edvin Ryding, Robert Naylor, Sabrina Jalees and Priyanka have been cast in Season 2 of the Crave Original, which is set to premiere in spring 2027. Production began on the sophomore season in Canada earlier this month.
