The Disney-owned network has greenlit competition series Limited Time Offer from VaynerWatt, the production company founded by marketing mogul Gary Vaynerchuk and former CAA agent Eric Wattenberg.
The series is an arched competition show where, every week, ten pop-culture food junkies compete to create iconic brands with the winning product available to the public the day after the episode airs.
Limited Time Offer is brand-funded with a variety of companies in fast food, casual dining and packaged goods challenging the contestants to create something that they can sell. It is slated to air next year.
It builds off the viral internet trend that has seen brands launch limited time offers of special products such as Jimmy John’s picklewich and Sweetgreen’s tinned fish collab with Fishwife.
The series is expected to have two full-time judges with one guest judge per episode.
It was co-created by Vaynerchuk and Wattenberg, who exec produce alongside Sam Brown, Tim Hackbardt and Nema Vand.
It marks VaynerWatt’s first broadcast network order; the company is behind History’s Strange Fortunes with Kevin Bacon for The History Channel, Tubi’s scripted series Z-Suite and Amazon’s sport docuseries The Home Team: The New York Jets.
It is the latest brand-focused show for network television; Jimmy Fallon hosted On Brand for NBC alongside former Netflix marketing chief Bozoma Saint John but it was canceled after one season and Elle Macpherson hosted Fashion Star for the same network back in 2012, which saw fashion designers create items that could sell at the likes of Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and H&M.
Limited Time Offer joins ABC’s unscripted lineup, which is returning a number of shows this fall. Dancing with the Stars returns later this month with Season 35 and other series premiering new seasons soon include America’s Funniest Home Videos, Shark Tank and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.
