Chuk Anyanwu was evicted from the Big Brother house last week and Just Jared got the chance to sit down with him and ask him some questions.
We asked him all about Taylor’s assessment of his game, why he wanted to compete on Big Brother after admittedly not watching the show previously, why he approached Lala in the HoH room about her game play, and much more.
Scroll down to see everything Chuk shared from our exclusive chat…
Just Jared: Taylor used the phrase “Big Brother for dummies” to describe frustrations with you in the Big Brother house. Fans also think that you didn’t have much of a game strategy. What do you have to say about this notion in general?
Chuk Anyanwu: I’m someone to where I even vocalize that in the house. I watched minimal of the show, right? I truly came into it with minimal watch time, and coming out…the fans that we saw that, right? I was someone to where I was loyal to my alliance, just tried to stick with my alliance, and didn’t form other mini alliances that you needed in the house, right? That’s essentially the name of the game, and I felt like I couldn’t, I can’t go fake a mini alliance with someone who I don’t trust just to extend my time in the house. And she gave me that advice, and at the time I’m like…I’m in a great alliance, like, what are you telling me? Hindsight 2020, realizing how it blew up and all the people working to get you out of there who are in your alliance definitely was something to where I should have maybe formed a little bit more mini alliances.
I barely watched the show. And I totally agree. And so I know the fans, they [are] like, how in the world are you doing this in there? Like, did you watch the show? And I find the comments funny because it is like kind of true to where it could have been a way better game.
Just Jared: Why did you want to compete on the show if you haven’t watched it before?
Chuk Anyanwu: Great question. A great and a valid question, right? … I want[ed] to see, how can I go on and compete for all this money while kind of having that minimum watch time and kind of going at it with fresh eyes. Sometimes I felt that if you watch too much of it, you might get in your head and start overthinking. So I went into it never overthinking, trusting my gut.
And a lot of times I would go off certain conversations and go about the way the gameplay was going just based off my gut. But a valid question, why go on if you did not watch much of it? [I] truly wanted to test how well can I see if I’m right about my gut feelings? And now that I think about it, [I] was wrong about a lot of them.
Just Jared: You had a conversation with Lala, telling her she didn’t understand how to play the game and you were kind of offering her advice. She said back, “my game is hashtag confused.” What was your thought process behind approaching Lala like this? And have you changed your assessment of Lala now that you went home [on her HOH]?
Chuk Anyanwu: Yes. So Lala put me up and Lala has sent me home. So I know they’re like, Chuk, you should have listened to Lala. And of course, look, I’m not in every room. People have to understand we don’t see the bird’s eye view of people working and doing things in the background, right? I was only going based off my view and my view for those weeks that I was in there.
I didn’t see her talking game with anyone. And I would speak to people and they would kind of mention she doesn’t talk game with them. And she would never talk game with me. So for my view, I’m like, is Lala playing the game, right?
And going in there, when you’re on the block, you’re not happy, right? You are potentially going home, right? And when someone puts you on the block, you know, oh my God, it’s going to be easy for someone else to put me on the block next week. So I went in there frustrated [with] the fact that now I’m officially on the block.
And now if I stay this week, I can potentially see myself on the block again the following week. But now that I’ve left, Lala’s rocking and rolling. Lala has changed. Like Lala is, she is in on how the house is moving.
And it’s beautiful to see. She’s forming her little mini alliances. She’s working with her people. And so now that I’m out, I’m like, okay, okay.
Lala as a person, we love Lala. Lala’s the mother. She does so much for us and she takes care of us. In those five weeks I was in there, she took care of us so much. But my comments are just Lala the game player, and it’s a game, right? I have to tell people it a game, guys. It like no one died, right? It just, yeah, she amazing though.
Just Jared: You’ve done a few press interviews already at this point. Is there anything you feel like you want to address but haven’t yet, or anything you want to clear up for anyone?
Chuk Anyanwu: There’s nothing I want to clear up. I know everyone had comments in regards to one, my hygiene. I’m like, yo, your boy works out a ton, right? In me being a “have not” that last week, you get cold showers and you’re waiting till you’re not a “have not” anymore so you can get that hot shower. If you space out your workout in the morning, you’re like, wait, I got a hot shower waiting for me.
You know, things change, but also just my game play. I tell you I had minimum watch time, and it’s something I literally vocalized. And going into this show, this competition show, where you need to be able to form so many alliances and truly decipher if someone truly is lying to you, watching it definitely helps a ton. So I totally agree, and I kind of laugh at all the comments and the boring comments, I’m like, yo, I did go in there kind of wanting to just be a little bit more nonchalant and not get my niceness and kind of bubbly charismatic self taken for granted, but now that you watch it. You’re like, okay, you could loosen up just a little bit, dude.
Like, loosen the hell up. I was like, it’s so much money. I’m not loosening up. But like, dude, relax. You’re loosening up a little bit.
