Kevin Bacon has inked a deal to star in Summoner, a new Amazon MGM horror film from writer-director Jeremy Slater that will mark his directorial debut, Deadline can confirm.

A theatrical title for the studio, Summoner follows Jefferson Haddock (Bacon), who is called into an isolated witness protection property to deal with a terrifying demon, unleashing a force that threatens to end him and everything around him.

Nocturna’s Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Russell Ackerman will produce, with Dan Kagan executive producing.

Most recently, Bacon exec produced and starred in the Blumhouse action horror series The Bondsman, also appearing in Netflix’s limited series Sirens. He also was seen starring in Michael J. Weithorn’s rom-com The Best You Can, reuniting on screen with his wife Kyra Sedgwick for the first time in 20 years. Bacon and Sedgwick also recently directed and starred in the horror-comedy Family Movie alongside their children, Travis Bacon and Sosie Bacon. That title premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.

Slater is a writer-producer known for work on titles like Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, Marvel’s Moon Knight for Disney+, and The Exorcist, which ran for two seasons on Fox. Most recently, he penned New Line’s Mortal Kombat II, which grossed $126 million worldwide.

Yesterday, we were first to report on Warner Bros. landing the short story “Exposure” by Erika Vázquez & Siena Butterfield, with Andy and Barbara Muschietti boarding to produce the erotic thriller feature for Double Dream.
