Karina Longworth‘s podcast “You Must Remember This” returns for its latest season, “The Bisexuals,” on Sept. 15.
Over eight episodes, creator and host Longworth will explore the history of bisexuals in the 1900s Hollywood sphere. Beginning with Libby Holman’s rise to stardom in 1920s New York, “The Bisexuals” will also cover her transition to infamy following the scandal of her husband’s murder in the 1930s.
The podcast also examines the cultural climate of the 1940s and ‘50s, which held no possibility for a movie star like Montgomery Clift, a member of Holman’s social circle, to be openly queer. By the 1960s, both Holman and Clift were too deeply scarred to benefit from the decade’s social revolutions.
“The Bisexuals” will also feature characters like Elizabeth Taylor, Josephine Baker, Billie Holiday, Kane and Paul Bowles, Tallulah Bankhead and Nicholas Ray.
“You Must Remember This” was created by former film critic Longworth in 2014. The podcast dives into the secret and forgotten history of 20th century Hollywood. The latest season, “The Old Man is Still Alive,” examines the filmographies of early Hollywood directors who were still making movies in the later decades of the 20th century.
Previous seasons have focused on the origins of celebrity gossip in Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper, the controversy of Disney’s “Song of the South” film, the echoes of the Manson murders across Hollywood and the professional rivalry between horror stars Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff.
