In the full interview posted Thursday (Sept. 3), the podcaster began by acknowledging how some people have assumed that she isn’t sad about the divorce due to the strong face she’s put on publicly since her marriage ended. “I think that’s why everybody is mistaken, because I’m not crying on my phone on social media,” she said. “My heart was shattered, but guess what? It’s healing, and it’s coming back even stronger.”
“There [were] moments when my team had to pick me up off the floor and give me IVs,” Bunnie continued. “I wasn’t eating. I was eating baby food to get by. I lost 20 pounds. Heartbreak, man. It’s the best freaking diet.”
She added, “I don’t want people to think like I’m just out here acting like s–t doesn’t hurt … Yeah, it hurt.”
The Dumb Blonde host also shared what she sees for herself and her career now that she’s flying solo. “I always kind of water myself down [in romantic relationships], and I always am trying to put them first,” she told Hager. “Even though I have been majorly successful on my own, it’s still not fully me … I’m kind of stepping into my own spotlight now, and I don’t have anyone else around me. It’s just me holding the show, the attention.”
Jelly filed to divorce Bunnie after nearly 10 years of marriage in May, news that only became public in June. Shortly afterward, Bunnie posted a since-deleted podcast episode explaining that the split stemmed from a heated argument that took place on Mother’s Day this year, during which she dared the country star to file divorce papers without thinking that he actually would.
“Was I blindsided? Was this divorce mutual? No, it was not mutual, even though I told him to file the divorce papers, I was speaking out of anger and just frustration,” she said on Dumb Blonde, revealing that she and Jelly remain “best friends” and still plan on welcoming a baby via IVF together. “But was it necessary for us to have a wakeup call? … Absolutely. … My husband and I are ending this marriage on the best possible terms that you could ever have a divorce.”
