EXCLUSIVE: The Elizabeth Banks-led Apple TV half-hour comedy series has cast Hamish Linklater (Widow’s Bay, Manhunt), Michelle Buteau (Survival of the Thickest), and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi, Barbie) in recurring roles. They join Ted Danson, Katey Sagal, Rob Delaney, Jared Goldstein, and Spencer Moss, who were also previously announced as part of the cast.
The series will shoot in Los Angeles later this year.
From creators Liz Heldens and Matt Ward, the as-yet-untitled series follows Heidi (Banks), who is fresh off a messy divorce and sets out to secure a lively second act for herself and her kids. But when she stumbles into coordinating her father’s (Danson) retirement community sexcapades, Heidi is forced into an unlikely alliance with his girlfriend’s perpetually single son.
Linklater will play Evan, Heidi’s ex-husband; Buteau will play Melissa, a talented ad executive; Liu will play Dr. Zhou, a doctor who treats Heidi’s son.
Produced for Apple TV by 20th Television, the new series will be showrun and executive produced by Heldens and Ward. Banks executive produces alongside Max Handelman and Krissy Wall through her Brownstone Productions banner. Jonathan Krisel (Adults, English Teacher) will direct the pilot and serve as executive producer. Quinn Haberman executive produces alongside Heldens for Selfish Mermaid, and Jason Winer and Jon Radler will executive produce for Small Dog Picture Company.
Linklater is repped by Untitled Entertainment, Gersh, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole; Buteau is repped by Mosaic and CAA; Liu is repped by CAA, 1v1 Entertainment, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
