EXCLUSIVE: Jake Carter & Billy Offer are joining Range Select, the film finance and sales division of Range Media Partners, as Partners & Co-Heads. They both come from UTA in the Independent Film Group division.
Carter spent the past five years as an agent in UTA’s Independent Film Group in LA and New York, specializing in global film finance, distribution and marketing strategies for independent and co-financed features and TV, helping the world’s most acclaimed filmmakers see their work reach global audiences. Some of the films on which Carter arranged financing and sold while at UTA include Oliver Hermanus’ History of Sound, Todd Haynes’ May December and Na Hong Jin’s upcoming Hope. Prior to UTA, Carter was at 30WEST, where he oversaw production on the company’s slate and Black Bear Pictures, after beginning his career at Sloss Eckhouse Dasti Haynes LawCo.
Offer started in the UTA mailroom and spent the last decade in UTA’s Independent Film Group. As a LA native, Offer always knew he wanted to help filmmakers bring their visions from page to reality, leading him to his role in structuring financing for films and companies, and selling distribution rights on films of all shapes and sizes. While at UTA, he supported films including Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs which became the highest grossing independent film of 2024, Daniel Roher’s latest film Tuner, and Alex Ullom’s upcoming 4X4.
Carter and Offer worked closely together at UTA and quickly became known around town as “Jake and Billy.” While at UTA, the duo built a robust practice representing and advising filmmakers, producers, financiers, and media companies.
“We are beyond thrilled to welcome ‘Jake and Billy’ to Range,” said Jack Whigham & Rich Cook, Founding Partners at Range. “Many of us have had such wonderful experiences working with them through the years at UTA where they received the best training you could ever ask for in the business. We love how thoughtful and sophisticated they are on behalf of filmmakers and projects. We are honored to call them colleagues.”
These hires follow a string of high-profile additions and expansions of the company, which recently hired both Brandon Liebman and Felicia Prinz as Partners & Managers in the Film/TV division, Nishika Kumble as SVP of Scripted Television for Range Studios, Jake Dexter as VP of Sports Content for Range Sports, the launch of Range Games led by industry veteran Ben Jones, the acquisitions of golf instruction platform Short Game Chef and experiential powerhouse Superfly, among many others.
