Eli is facing some backlash following her performance at Olivia Rodrigo‘s inaugural Daisy Chain Fields music festival.
The 25-year-old “Girl of Your Dreams” singer performed at the charity festival on Saturday (August 29) in Irvine, Calif., where she delivered a speech calling for wealth redistribution.
“I do not wish to impress you, nor do I want to prove a point amongst my past critiques of the unethical and inhumane nature of billionaires possessing more than half the wealth of the entire world,” she read aloud on her phone, via Billboard.
She also told the crowd to “eat the identity politics that deceive and divide us all, as well as eating the rich.”
The comments quickly sparked a debate online about Eli‘s own family background, with some critics pointing to her father’s career in finance.

Eli is the daughter of Jeffrey S. Miller, a longtime executive in the investment management industry.
Jeffrey has served as Chief Operating Officer at Geode Capital, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Geode Capital Management is a Boston-based investment firm that currently manages approximately $2.2 trillion in assets, according to the company’s website.
While some social media posts have characterized Eli‘s father as extremely wealthy, there does not appear to be a reliable public estimate of his personal net worth.
Eli first found fame as a teenager posting singing videos on Vine. She later studied recorded music at NYU before dropping out and moving to Los Angeles to pursue music full-time.
She signed with Mark Ronson‘s Zelig Music in partnership with RCA Records and released her debut album Stage Girl in 2025.

During her Daisy Chain Fields performance, Eli announced that she was donating $30,000 of her record label advance to two of the festival’s nonprofit partners. She then called for wealth redistribution and encouraged the audience to “eat the identity politics that deceive and divide us all, as well as eating the rich.”
The comments prompted criticism online over her family background, while others defended the singer and argued that coming from wealth does not prevent her from advocating for wealth redistribution.

I don’t know how I ended up on a stage like this, but I’m so grateful, so thank you so much for having me, but that’s not the most important part. The most important part is: I pledge to share $15,000 of my RCA recording advance to Black Mamas Matter, as well as $15,000 to FreeFrom.
Make no mistake: I know I am imperfect. I am not important. I am not a superstar or a special kind of person, unless we all are. I do not wish to impress you, nor do I want to prove a point amongst my past critiques of the unethical and abhorrent inhumane nature of a world with billionaires possessing more than half the wealth of the entire world..this is not to make you think that I am good.
