America’s got…a whole new season to watch.America’s Got Talent returns for season 21 June 2, and while viewers have been tuning in for two decades, Simon Cowell is quick to remind them there’s always something new."Fortunately, we do get surprises and mostly in a good way," the judge—who sits on the panel with Sofía Vergara, Melanie “Mel B” Brown and Howie Mandel—told WCNC Charlotte June 1. "That’s what I’m always hoping every year: 'Are we going to see an act we've never seen before or something better than we’ve seen before?' Because you never want to go backwards."As for what fans can expect this season, the trailer shows performers dancing with robots, swallowing swords, twirling fiery batons and doing aerial acrobatics (don’t try this at home, kids). History will also be made as AGT teases that, for the first time ever, three Golden Buzzers will be earned in a single night—with a sneak peek showing one going to 14-year-old singer Lai Noelle.

But that’s not all. There will also be a Judges' Callback round following the initial auditions, where a few acts will be invited to perform a second time in an effort to help the judges determine which contestants should advance to the Live Shows."It was great for me because I really, really got to know them better," Cowell continued, "and I think the audience at home are going to get to know these people way better than just a very quick, 'Hello, my name is so and so, and I’m just going to do something.' Sometimes, I think you gotta know more about people."

Indeed, Cowell suggests the bar for the acts has never been higher. "I want the show to be better," he added. "I really hope that we find someone who’s going to do really well after the show. And I want people, ideally, to talk about what they’ve seen on the show. Otherwise, it would be boring. And if the acts didn’t get better, then there would be no point in making the show, honestly."Before host Terry Crews officially kicks off season 21, learn more about America’s Got Talent with these fun facts.America's Got Talent season 21 premieres at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
