J. Harrison Ghee, a 2023 Tony Award winner for their performance in Some Like It Hot, will take a two-month leave of absence from the national tour of Oh, Mary! on the recommendation of their medical team.

Ghee, according to an announcement from the production, has been managing kidney disease and “following a change in their kidney function, their doctors have advised that they step away from the tour to focus on their health and treatment.”

Ghee is expected to be out of the tour through November 1.

“I’m so grateful to the producers and the entire company of Oh, Mary! for the extraordinary support, care, and understanding they’ve shown me during this time,” Ghee said in a statement. “Stepping away isn’t easy, but I know I’m doing it surrounded by people who genuinely support me, and that means more than I can say.”

Producers Kevin McCollum, Lucas McMahon, Mike Lavoie and Carlee Briglia expressed their support, saying in a statement, “J. is an incredible talent and a beloved member of the Oh, Mary! company. The entire team sends them love and encouragement, and we look forward to the day when they can dazzle audiences in Oh, Mary!”

Stepping into the role of Mary’s Husband will be John-Andrew Morrison, who has played the role on Broadway and was part of the original Broadway cast of A Strange Loop in 2022. He’ll begin performance on the tour starting Saturday, September 19, at The Bushnell in Hartford through November 1, including engagements in San Diego, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.
