Netflix

Crew Girl just arrived on Netflix, and viewers are already wondering if the new series will be back for a second season.

The new young adult drama premiered on Thursday (September 10), with all eight episodes of Season 1 available to stream at once.

Miku Martineau stars as Teagan Tao, a talented 16-year-old rower whose life is upended by a scandal involving her family.

After moving from California to the small town of Eagle’s Cove, Teagan enrolls at the prestigious Easton Prep and discovers that the school doesn’t have a girls’ crew team. She instead becomes the coxswain of the boys’ team, where she gets caught up in rivalries and a love triangle involving Josh Regis (Sam Braun) and Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark).

So, has Netflix renewed Crew Girl for Season 2 yet?

Will There Be a Crew Girl Season 2?

As of Friday (September 11), Netflix has not announced whether Crew Girl will return for Season 2.

That’s not necessarily cause for concern, as the show only premiered one day ago.

However, the show’s creative team is already thinking about where the story could go next.

Showrunner Vivian Lin was asked whether she has a multi-season plan for the series and revealed that the writers have already discussed ideas beyond the first season.

“We had some theories,” she told Swooon, explaining that the writers are constantly “theorizing and gossiping” about what could happen to the characters next.

In a separate interview, Vivian was even more optimistic about the show’s long-term potential.

“I think it has the potential to go on as long as it wants to,” she told What’s on Netflix, noting that the world of rowing could also open the door to spinoffs. “I think there are legs to this. No guarantees though.”

Executive producer Jeff Norton has similarly expressed interest in continuing the series.

“I would love to do further seasons of all of these shows,” he told What’s on Netflix. “And if Crew Girl resonates with the audience in a way that I hope it will, I think we’ll be able to go again.”

So while Season 2 has not officially been ordered, the show’s creative team clearly has ideas for continuing the story if Netflix gives them the green light.

Warning: Spoilers for the Season 1 finale are ahead!

How Does Crew Girl Season 1 Set Up a Possible Season 2?

Season 1 ends with several storylines that could continue if the series is renewed.

After spending much of the season torn between Josh and Cam, Teagan ultimately shares a kiss with Cam in the finale. However, her relationship with Josh isn’t necessarily over. Following his heart surgery, Josh asks Teagan for another chance, and the two share a lingering look that suggests there may still be feelings between them.

There’s also a major development for Teagan’s rowing future: Easton Prep is getting a new girls’ crew team, with her rival Britney involved in making it happen. That opens up an entirely new dynamic for a potential second season.

Teagan’s family storyline also leaves room for more. Her father David resurfaces after fleeing authorities, and Teagan ultimately convinces him to turn himself in, leaving the fallout from his financial crimes available to explore in a potential second season.

For now, fans will have to wait to see whether Netflix orders another season.

Season 1 stars Miku Martineau, Jessica Paré, Sam Braun, Kyle Clark, Thomas Cadrot, Sage Linder, Olga Petsa, Connor Paton and more.
