Jessica Simpson’s life is about to become a public affair.

Indeed, the “Take My Breath Away” singer confirmed that Netflix will be producing a documentary about her career and influence, set to come out next year.

“It’s time to open a new chapter,” Simpson wrote on Instagram Aug. 23 alongside a photo of herself sitting by a camera crew. “@Netflix, 2027.”

On top of the photo, Simpson included a headline from Variety announcing the news.

Simpson last invited cameras into her life 20 years ago when she starred in her reality TV series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which chronicled her life with then-husband Nick Lachey.

Since then, the “A Public Affair” hitmaker has sold more than 20 million records worldwide, launched The Jessica Simpson Collection and written her bestselling memoir Open Book.

As for why Netflix felt it was the perfect time to make a doc about her time in and away from the public eye?

“After a 15-year hiatus from original music, Jessica returned to recording and performing with her two 2025 Nashville Canyon EPs,” Tudum announced in an Aug. 20 statement. “Now, she’s invited the cameras back in to tell all in a new documentary.”

The statement added of the Joe Pearlman-directed project, “Stay tuned for more updates on the documentary ahead of its 2027 premiere.”

While Simpson—mom to kids Maxwell, 14, Ace, 13, and Birdie, 7, with estranged husband Eric Johnson—may have returned to music after a nearly two-decade hiatus, she recently shared insight into how her time out of Los Angeles helped her through a difficult chapter in her life.

“I do love Nashville,” Simpson said during her December 2025 show in Connecticut. “It brought me home to myself and inside of my heart in a really hard time of my life.”

“I just kind of had to surrender myself to my intuition and the light that was in front of me,” she added. “I had to focus on that. My whole music career, I had a job: to be a pop star. And I tried [that.]

She continued, “When you’re younger, you just never feel good enough. And it’s OK to not feel good enough.”

In fact, the 46-year-old hit a creative roadblock when she revamped her sound. And months after she released her debut country album Do You Know in 2008, her former label Sony Nashville dropped her—a decision she recently admitted made her “mad at music” at the time.

But after a long hiatus, the “Irresistible” singer has become all the wiser when it comes to soul searching.

“I want everyone to have grace for themselves, but I’m very good at convincing myself that my purpose is bigger than the moment,” she continued. “It felt like over the last 15 years of not singing, I’d left these breadcrumbs to walk myself back to the throne where I belong. It’s my chair, my crown, and I reclaimed that.”
