Indeed, while the Odyssey actress—who stars as the Greek goddess Athena in the Christopher Nolan epic—has been known for method dressing during press tours, her looks for the new fantasy action flick are on another level, especially the gold medallion earrings she paired with a white Jacquemus gown at a London photocall July 5.
To say that Zendaya, with the help of her longtime stylist Law Roach, pulled from the archives for the accessory would be the understatement of the century—or rather the millennium. After all, the ancient 18-karat yellow gold and diamond earrings, which were designed by Glenn Spiro and are owned by Barron London, date back 3,000 years to the first millennium BC, according to the London-based jeweler.
And the gold disks have a special story behind them. As archeologist Annelise Baer shared in a July 10 Instagram video, the artifacts were originally from Iran and while they "likely were not earrings," the medallions were probably worn as "something decorative" like other sunburst designs of the era.
The earrings and Jacquemus ensemble—which also featured a white headscarf—are just one of the head-turning fashion looks Zendaya has rocked on the Odyssey press tour.
Indeed, the Challengers star has stepped out in multiple stunning Greek goddess-inspired looks on the red carpet, including a white corseted Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown with a light-up beaded fringe skirt at the film's London premiere.
The dress—which Zendaya donned just hours after it debuted on the Paris runway, courtesy of Law and a private jet—was a 'fit that was fit for a goddess, as its bodice was made of glazed silicone but appeared statue-like.
And it wasn’t the only show-stopping look the Spider-Man star donned that night. Indeed, Zendaya traded in the sculpted gown for an olive-colored Valentino gown with a bust made of green vines reminiscent of the landscape of ancient Greece.
As for her other Athena-inspired red carpet looks that struck fans as hard as Zeus’ lightning bolt? Zendaya rocked a white, long-sleeved Alexander McQueen-designed Givenchy dress paired with a gold masquerade headpiece at a Paris photocall and a floor-length white gown with giant white feathered angel wings at the New York City premiere.
In fact, the Matières Fécale dress was years in the making.
"Law put this on hold a long time ago," Zendaya exclusively told Justin Sylvester during the Live from E! Stream at the July 14 premiere. "Like, two years ago."
And don’t expect Zendaya and Law to stop breaking barriers anytime soon.
“Our relationship is so symbiotic that it could be one dress, it could be a thousand dresses,” the stylist told E! News in March of sifting through fashion choices with the Emmy winner. “You just never know.”
