Apple TV’s horror comedy Widow’s Bay barely made the Emmy eligibility window, qualifying with seven of its 10 episodes released before the cutoff date. That was enough for its star Matthew Rhys to score an Outstanding Actor In a Comedy Series nomination.

He is among several double acting nominees today, including Jason Bateman, Nick Offerman, Laurie Metcalf and Colman Domingo, as he is also up for Outstanding Actor In a Limited Series or Movie with his performance in Netflix’s thriller The Beast In Me.

With their latest acting nominations, Emmy winners Rhys and Bateman — nominated as Lead Actor In a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Netflix’s Black Rabbit and as Supporting Actor In a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for HBO’s DTF St. Louis — accomplished a rare feat. (Bateman is a four-time nominee today, he also is up for directing on Black Rabbit and producing on DTF St. Louis.)

The two have now become the first male performers to score career nominations in all three lead acting categories: Drama, Comedy, and Limited, Anthology or Movie.

Rhys has four previous Lead Actor In a Drama Series nominations, three for FX’s The Americans, including one win, and one for HBO’s Perry Mason.

Bateman was previously nominated as Lead Actor In a Comedy series for Fox/Netflix’s Arrested Development (twice) and Lead Actor In a Drama Series for Ozark (four times). He won an Emmy for directing the Netflix drama.

Rhys and Bateman join three actresses who had previously landed at least one nomination in each of the three lead categories: Susan Saint James for Kate & Allie (comedy) and McMillan & Wife (both as drama and limited series/movie); Bateman’s Ozark co-star Laura Linney for The Big C, Ozark and two movies/limited series, Wild Iris and John Adams; as well as Edie Falco for Nurse Jackie, The Sopranos and Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders.

Like Rhys, double acting nominees Offerman, Metcalf and Domingo are showing range by scoring nominations for dramatic and comedic turns.

Parks and Rec alum Offerman, Guest Actor Emmy winner for HBO’s post-apocalyptic drama The Last Of Us, is nominated in two Supporting Actor categories: Comedy Series for Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Limited Series or Movie for historical drama Death By Lightning.

Metcalf, coming off her Tony win last month, is recognized in the Supporting Actress In a Limited or Anthology Series on Movie category for Netflix’s dark true crime limited series Monster: The Ed Gein Story, and as Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for HBO Max’s Hacks, a role that got her an Emmy win in 2022.

Domingo, a previous nominee (and winner) in the Guest Actor In a Drama series for HBO’s Euphoria in 2022 and Supporting Actor In a Comedy Series for Netflix’s The Four Seasons in 2025, is nominated for both this year.
