Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan hit the stage at 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event held at Honda Center on Friday (August 14) in Anaheim, Calif.
The Zootopia 2 stars served as hosts for the evening’s festivities at the Disney Entertainment Showcase, where the company unveiled first looks at upcoming projects and announced new movies.
They even held onto plushies of their characters and unveiled an exciting announcement!
Zootopia 3 is in the works!
Ginnifer and Ke Huy were joined on stage by Disney Animation Chief Creative Officer and Oscar winner Jared Bush, who wrote the first two movies.
There, the trio announced that Zootopia 3 is currently in early development, and they screened an exclusive sequence for the audience.
A release timeframe will be released at a later date.
News of Zootopia 3 comes nearly a year after the second movie broke box office records. At the time, it became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, but was rather quickly de-throned by Ne Zha 2, once it hit worldwide theaters.
The Zootopia 3 logo also hints at what’s to come, referencing the second movie’s end credits scene.
Zootopia 2 end credits scene explained
At the very end of the credits reel, there is a bonus scene. We see Judy Hopps (Goodwin) in her apartment and playing a voice recording from Nick (Jason Bateman), telling her that he loves her. She plays the message over and over and her neighbor loudly asks through the wall if she’s going to listen to it all night. Another neighbor chimes in to tell the other neighbor to leave her alone. We then get a hint at Judy’s next case, about a rabbit who strangled her neighbor, seemingly joking that she’s going to do that to one of them.
As the movie is about to fully end, a feather falls next to the voice recorder and blows away.
