Christopher McDonald is making a shocking admission about his past relationship with Geena Davis.
Geena, 70, and Christopher, 71, were engaged for about five weeks in the mid-1980s. According to the Happy Gilmore actor, Geena ended their engagement after falling in love with Jeff Goldblum.
Christopher made the revelation during an August 18 career retrospective hosted by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation (via People), beginning with an explanation of how Geena supposedly fell for Jeff while working with him on the 1985 film Transylvania 6-5000.
“And I don’t blame him. She’s stunningly beautiful and everything like that, but you know, what happens on sets — things sometimes happen,” he said.
Christopher continued, “But I was broken.”
He recalls doing Hamlet at the time, playing the role of Laertes, and having another three weeks before he was going to travel to Europe to join Geena while she was making the movie.
He wound up getting the “bad news” from Ed Begley.
“I mean I was really, really devastated,” Christopher admitted.
After meeting on Transylvania 6-5000, Geena and Jeff would later co-star in The Fly and Earth Girls Are Easy. They married in November 1987 and then split in 1990, with their divorce was finalized in 1991.

In an unexpected twist, Christopher and Geena reunited professionally in the 1991 movie Thelma & Louise, where Christopher played the controlling husband of Geena‘s character, Thelma.
According to the actor, Geena even helped him get the role with director Ridley Scott.
“It’s literally five years later and [Davis] said to [Director Ridley Scott], ‘Who’d you get to play my husband?’ and he said, ‘Oh, you’ll love him, he’s tall, he’s funny, uh …. what’s his name? Chris McDonald,” and then she said, ‘I used to go with him,’ and he said, ‘Even better, perfect!’” Christopher recounted.
He previously called the experience “cathartic” during an interview with The Los Angeles Times in 1992.
Christopher is now married to actress in Lupe Gidley. They tied the knot in 1992 and have four children together. Jeff married Emilie Livingston in 2014 and they have two sons.
Geena married Renny Harlin in 1993 and they divorced in 1998. She later married Reza Jarrahy in 2001. She and Reza share three children, though they finalized their divorce in 2021.
