Ira Sachs will lead the competition jury at this year’s San Sebastián Film Festival.
The American filmmaker will be joined on the jury by Japanese filmmaker and author Genki Kawamura, the screenwriter Catherine Paillé, actresses Alice Braga and Patricia López Arnaiz, the actor Bill Skarsgård, and the producer Mike Goodridge.
Sachs is coming off a summer festival run with his latest feature The Man I Love. Directed by Sachs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mauricio Zacharias, the film is set in 1980s New York and follows Jimmy George, a Downtown performance artist, who is currently living in an “extraordinary moment between great illness and death when, still, all beauty and love is possible,” the official synopsis reads.
Starring in the film are Rami Malek, Tom Sturridge, Luther Ford, Rebecca Hall, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The film began production on a 28-day shoot in New York on September 21, 2025, and wrapped on October 29. However, Sachs has said it took him and Zacharias 15 years to craft the film’s story.
“This is our sixth film together,” Sachs told Deadline during an interview at Cannes, where the film debuted. “We’ve been talking about this time and some story set in this time since we started working together in 2010, so it’s been brewing for a long time.”
Today, San Sebastián also announced the list of international names set to attend this year’s festival. The list includes Orlando Bloom, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Ricardo Darín, Virginie Efira, Lali Espósito, Eduard Fernández, Dolores Fonzi, Jeremy Irons, Denis Lavant, Vincent Lindon, Rami Malek, Noémie Merlant, Mercedes Morán, Lena Olin, Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Brad Pitt, Tom Sturridge and Marcelo Subiotto.
The 2026 San Sebastián Film Festival runs from September 18-26.
